Clearly there is a difference between Construction and making Cars
This site provides practical advice gained from our experience in attempting LEAN in a Construction environment. It is for people seeking information on LEAN. Whether you are Client, Manufacturer, Designer, or a Contractor, in any industry, the issues are the same. Engineers are often under the illusion that they design things, nearly all what they do consists of nudging forward descent with modification. LEAN is an identical a system in that it requires a nudge. The site has information, practical advice and explanation to those attempting the use of LEAN Construction theory. Eliminating WASTE and creating VALUE is a learning and thinking process The challenge is that LEAN is an example of an un-designed system, self ordered through the action of individuals, rather than achieved by procedures, tools or metrics. Training is key. This site is dedicated to the use of LEAN Procedures in the construction Industry and how to implement the use of LEAN in practical terms. A decade of construction industry inexperience?
CE Dti 16.10.09 - news! Since Sir John Egan’s Task Force published its report Rethinking Construction in 1998, there has been some progress, but nowhere near enough. Few of the Egan targets has been met in full, while most have fallen considerably short. 73% of contracts exceed the tender price and 70% exceeded time estimates GCCP (1998) Where improvement has been achieved, too often the commitment to Egan's principles has been skin-deep. In some sectors, such as housing, construction simply does not matter, because there is such limited understanding of how value can be created through the construction process. For the last decade, the industry has been sheltered by a healthy economy. This has enabled construction to prosper without having to strive for innovation. The current economic crisis is a perfect opportunity for us to think again. We can not afford to waste it. A call for LEAN renewal. UK.GOV 24.06.10 - news!
